Peace journalism as constructive journalism

This article uses peace journalism as an example of constructive journalism. There is a clear parallel between constructive journalism and the idea of peace journalism, as is explained by Johan Galtung’s model. The normative point of departure for the analysis is that the UN Charter is a legitimate platform for constructive journalism. As a case study, the Norwegian media coverage of Norwegian participation in the war against Syria is analysed. The media could be constructive by suggestion that Norway returns to foreign and security policy within the framework of the UN, but through loyalty to US Norway has joined the NATO out-of area doctrine and contributed to a failed state in Libya. Constructive journalism in Syria is now urgent to avoid escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
