I wrote this a year ago and it’s the basic message that Americans need to grasp in my opinion regarding our wars in the Middle East:

“What I see” and would love to hear your opinions on these thoughts if you have the time and inclination…

The Deep State vs the Deep Civilizations

As you all know, I’ve been observing and researching the Middle East virtually all day every day for about five years now. That certainly doesn’t make me an expert – lifetimes of this wouldn’t make me one. I’m convinced only people of and from that region could ever possibly be. However, I do feel able to have an opinion and the basics are not too hard to grasp.

The “Deep State” –

When I refer to such things as “the Deep State”, many Americans get a deer in the headlights look, the “OMG, she’s a conspiracy theorist” gape. I’ve read history all my life and conspiracies, plans, alliances, long-term objectives etc are what make up most of geo-political history, particularly in the technology driven post-modern world. Conspiracies of course are what intelligence agencies exist for whether defending against them or creating them. I prefer the term “conspiracy realist”.

America is the single most powerful nation in the world right now even if too many Americans still do not understand or acknowledge this. With somewhere between 700-1000+ military posts around the globe and a “defense” budget that exceeds the spending of the next seven largest militaries combined, it’s just a fact. All that power…yet so many here remain blind, deaf and dumb to how this is perceived outside our borders…and deluding themselves regarding one of the greatest, historically-proven truths: that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

This megalithic military presence combined with the brute force of our economic power used to intimidate and subjugate other nations not least through imposing tortuous sanctions against whole populations does not, cannot, operate on four year election cycles. I remember first learning of the “back room boys” as a child watching the 1939 classic, “Mister Smith Goes to Washington”. Well those “back room boys” have perfected their game and now lead Americans by the nose, using propaganda that manipulates us by stoking our national pride into delusional arrogance and our fears into support for reckless, murderous aggressions.

The “Deep Civilizations” –

Now since WWII, our “Deep State” (which includes many of our allies), has been on a rampage against the “Deep Civilizations” of the Middle East, the entities of Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and including Iran – that northern swath of the region that was the birthplace of much of civilization itself including the three strongest religions.

The ME has been under assault by empires since empires existed because of its strategic geographic location at the crossroads of east and west, north and south and in recent history because of its tremendous natural resources that fuel the industrial world. Is it so hard to imagine that they are sick to death of it and want the opportunity to direct their own futures without the unending efforts of larger powers to control it?

The US and UK were the forces behind the establishment of the modern state that calls itself “Israel”, really a US/European colonial project that hopes to be an accepted scar (in spite of its publicly stated intentions of expansion) in the side of the Middle East but which is, in fact, an open, infected, gaping, growing wound. Most Arabs and Iranians know full well that what has been done against Palestine is the blueprint for the future: continued stealing of land, persecution and/or ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population, usurpation of natural resources, and the destruction of history and heritage itself in order to justify it all.

The US and UK have also been steadfastly promoting, protecting and pandering to “Saudi” Arabia (with other Gulf States) and their extremist and violent ideologies of Wahhabism and Salafism that are the roots of every major “Islamist” terrorist group operating around the world today: ISIS, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Boko Haram etc. While the Queen and former Kings of England and US Presidents bow down to the Saud “royals” and can’t sell them weapons fast enough, those same “royals” have been building and staffing radicalized mosques around the world as well as infecting the internet and media with the toxic message of their blood cults.

The battle between the “Deep State” and “Deep Civilizations” –

What is happening now is the fight between the two. The Deep State is seeing red, the seven decades old plan to control the region is at stake. In their greed, lust for power, and hubris particularly since 9/11, the “back room boys” have come fully out of the shadows. They’ve been creating, arming, training, funding, and supporting terrorist groups for decades as merciless mercenary forces to do their dirty work whenever they can’t get the American people on board with their ambitions.

The Deep Civilizations are in a fight for their existence. Does it mean those ancient rooted entities are perfect? Of course not; there are many intrinsic problems there. But their problems are their problems. Their resources are their resources. Their countries are their countries.

And it’s damn well past time for us to leave them all be to sort it out for themselves without our “Deep State” interventions and wars. It’s time for honest Americans to stop allowing this violence to be done in our name that has only succeeded in creating chaos, death, and destruction while bleeding our nation dry economically and making new enemies to fight in the next generation.
